Duck Race History

WHEN GOING QUACKERS REALLY SAVES LIVES

The Great Brisbane Duck Race is Australia’s largest charity duck race, raising funds for cancer research at Queensland’s leading research hospital – The Princess Alexandra Hospital – home to the discovery of the world’s first cancer vaccine.

Run by the PA Research Foundation, The Great Brisbane Duck Race commenced in 2007 and is in its 6th year. It has become the Foundation's signature fundraising event and is now an established iconic Brisbane event on the river. The race champions the cause for cancer research and has helped inspire many individuals and businesses to fly the flag for cancer research.

Up to 30,000 rubber ducks will take part on the day by racing over a 100m course to battle it out in the fight against cancer. It’s a fun and dynamic event for the community to get involved in with family friendly festivities and entertainment there on the day and the chance to win a car and other great prizes. Last year all 30,000 ducks raced in the event and a record of over $200,000 was raised.

The event now includes the curtain raiser The Great Brisbane Duck Race Team Challenge where teams (made up of businesses, families, friends or anyone!) are invited to take on a giant rubber duck and fundraise to enter their duck into the Motor or Non-motorised Team Duck Race. On the day the teams are provided a VIP area and battle against each other in mini team challenges. Up for grabs is the coveted title of Top Fundraising Team, Fastest Motorised Duck and Fastest Non-Motorised Duck.

Cancer is a disease which effects 1 out of every 3 Australian women and 1 out or every 2 Australian men. Cancer and other human diseases touch every community across Australia and through the hard work of the PA Research Foundation’s dedicated research teams, many patients are able to beat the odds and live a full life.

But there is still a lot more work to be done and our research teams need your help to save more lives and improve treatment options. You can help bring research to life by supporting the PA Research Foundation through the Great Brisbane Duck Race or directly by making a donation online today at www.pafoundation.org.au

We would like to thank the community, the teams and our sponsors for supporting the Great Brisbane Duck Race.
